NAVIGATING THE HYPE: PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR EMERGING TECH IN ARCHITECTURE
THE AGENDA
24 hours of insightful presentations in a virtual meeting space.
9:00am – 10:00am: Emerging Technology and Evaluating Impact
Paul Preiss
CEO & Founder of Iasa: The Global Architect Profession
In this session, we will discuss using the BTABoK structured canvas approach to evaluate technology for its impact on our business and technology landscape.
Tools under discussion
– Using sensing and future casting in understanding emerging technology
– Using business cases and OKRs to evaluate investment prioritization
– Using Decision Records to understand product and pattern application in solution design
10:00am – 11:00am: CTO Insights: Taming the AI Beast with a Doctor’s Mindset
Anandan Kumaran
CTO – TinyMagiq
In this talk, Kumaran will explore the pivotal shift in AI development from an “Engineer’s Mindset” to a “Doctor’s Mindset.” This change is vital for technical leadership, focusing on adaptive, probabilistic thinking rather than deterministic methods. Kumaran will discuss the importance of embracing uncertainty in AI systems, choosing the right use cases, and ensuring data quality. Through personal and industry examples, he will show how these elements influence AI project success and guide technology leaders in navigating this dynamic field with a medical-like decision-making approach.
11:00am – 12:00pm: A Cautiously Optimistic Journey to GenAI
James Wilt
Voraciously Curious Distinguished Architect
How you approach disruptive & emerging technologies will directly affect the level of benefit/reward once engaged with it. It is far too easy to engage early only to be burned by either trusting too soon in its maturity or missing out on its abilities. On the Technology axis, we’ll journey down a unique path of Drink-the-Kool Aid – Break-the-Mold – Engage Optimally. On the Human Dynamics axis, we’ll leverage learnings to navigate skeptics, opposers, and fanatics and then choose those who are best to lead innovative initiatives.
Finally, we wrap it in an approach framework that establishes the ability to make directional decisions with confidence through inside to outside prioritization.
12:00pm – 01:00pm: Multi-Cloud Intelligence: A Multi-Dimensional AI Architecture
Ayisha Tabbassum
Certified Multi-Cloud Architecture Enthusiast
Embark on a transformative journey through the cosmos of technology with “Multi-Cloud Intelligence: A Multi-Dimensional AI Architecture.” This captivating exploration unveils a symphony of possibilities where artificial intelligence meets the dynamic realms of multiple cloud environments. Imagine a landscape where AI evolves in multi-dimensions, seamlessly navigating diverse cloud providers to orchestrate an intelligent ecosystem. It’s more than an architecture; it’s a dynamic fusion of computational dimensions, propelling us into a future where AI adapts, collaborates, and thrives across the interconnected horizons of the multi-cloud universe. Join us in unraveling the multi-dimensional tapestry of innovation, where intelligence knows no bounds and the potential for transformative breakthroughs is limitless.
01:00pm – 02:00pm: The Morning After: Managing Sprawl And Debt
Charles Betz
VP Principal Analyst
As the tech boom slows and economic challenges rise, it’s crucial to reassess and streamline your tech portfolio. Complexities in supply chains, reduced leverage, and security risks grow as products diversify, making rationalization key in tight financial times. Achieving this isn’t straightforward due to data management difficulties and underestimated risks from even minor or open-source solutions. Charles Betz, Forrester Analyst with extensive experience, offers insights into navigating these complexities.
2:00pm – 3:00pm: LLM, Graph Databases and the RAG pattern and their role in future architecture
Zach Gardner
Chief Architect, Keyhole Software
Brice Ominski
An integration architecture thought leader and CITA-Distinguished
James Wilt
Voraciously Curious Distinguished Architect
Terry Room
Global Cloud CTO, Senior Director, Capgemini
Panel Discussion between Brice Ominski and Zach Gardner on LLM, Graph Databases, the RAG pattern, and their role in future architecture.
3:00pm – 4:00pm: Knowledge-Centered Design for Generative AI in Enterprise Solutions
Walson Lee
Recently retired from Microsoft
In this session, I will introduce a Knowledge-Centered Design (KCD) pattern, an extension of Human-Centered Design (HCD). KCD emphasizes various forms of human and enterprise knowledge, such as institutional know-how and intellectual property, in conjunction with artificial knowledge produced by GenAI. To ensure the effectiveness of this proposed KCD design pattern for GenAI-based solutions, I will introduce two crucial design concepts: the knowledge life cycle process and the feedback loop process. These concepts aim to enhance the continuous self-learning and improvement of GenAI solutions.
04:00pm – 05:00pm: Architectural Observability: Paving the Way to Fast Engineering Velocity and 10x Scale
Amir Rapson
CTO and Co-Founder at vFunction
Adam Safran Turo,
Senior Manager, Engineering
The push to continually modernize applications is causing organizations to accumulate technical debt, resulting in reduced engineering velocity, limited performance at scale and poor application resiliency. The race to modernize combined with architecture drifts and poor architecture choices make applications fragile and rigid. Join vFunction with Turo, who’s putting the world’s 1.5B cars to better use, as we explore how architectural observability helps engineering leaders, IT executives and software architects accelerate engineering velocity and scalability by unraveling monolithic architectures to deliver increased performance and resiliency while supporting growth in a rapidly-moving market.
05:00pm – 06:00pm: Riding the Wave: Ensuring Your Workforce is Ready for the Exponential Change of Emerging Tech
Fran Mether
Co-founder & Design Lead at Arteri
James McPhillips
Co-Founder / Strategy Lead at Arteri
In today’s fast-changing business and tech environment, organizations need to align workforce development with strategic goals to navigate disruptions caused by emerging technologies. This presentation will outline practical strategies to cut through the hype of new technologies, focusing on organizational readiness, human-centered design thinking, and business architecture to drive change. We’ll share case studies demonstrating successful technology integration and enhanced collaboration. Attendees will gain insights on evaluating their current state, identifying skill gaps, and creating a workforce development roadmap to leverage emerging technologies for organizational success.
